Customs and Traditions
The French are stereotyped to be stuck up people, when in reality, they are very kind, and show great hospitality.
When meeting a friend, they prefer not to hug, for they feel that it's too invasive. Instead, they give kisses on the cheeks. The amount of kisses can range from two (one on each cheek), or four (two on each cheek). Male friends only kiss each other's cheeks if they are very close friends, or relatives. If two male friends aren't very close, then they will share a quick, light, single hand shake. Some common greetings in Paris are bonjour (bon-jor), and salut (sa-loo). Some common departures phrases are au revoir (oh-re-vwar), and a beintôt (ah byen-toh). Salut can also be used as a departure word.
